AQWorlds Patch Notes

Check the list of bug fixes to see what the team has addressed

Reens, Cemaros and the AQW Bug Hunter team are busy squashing the bugs you submit each week to the Bug Tracker at www.Artix.com/bugs.

Check back weekly to see if the bug you reported has been addressed.  Please remember that not all bugs are "easy fixes" so some reported and confirmed bugs from each week may not be on the fixed list as they will require more time or a different person to fix them.

If you would like to know how the reports go from you to fixed, check this page:

Extras! - Battleon & Town and Houses
As some of you might have noticed from the Design Notes and Memet’s tweet, Battleon and Battleontown are going to get a sprucing up soon. We know there are some map bugs happening right now, but since the maps are going to be facelifted soon, unless it prevents gameplay those will be fixed with the update, not on an individual basis.

One of the most common reports we are getting right now is players unable to go to their house, or their house is displaying the wrong name when they get there.  There are several issues with houses that are known and are on the list to fix with the rewrite and improved coding.  For now, there is one big thing players can do which may help reduce the issue. Too many requests to go to your house in too short a period of time is one of the ways a house breaks.  Probably the most common way.  So just like if you were getting disconnected because you were spamming skills, slow down and don’t spam the house button or /house.

Class Updates from Arklen and team!
Arklen and the Class Design Team will now also be giving some information*** on what they work on each week.  Arklen would also like to let you know you can give him feedback on classes on his twitter - @Arklen_AE

  • Nothing to report this week, but as always, Arklen is happy to taek your feedback on his twitter!  See link above!

Extras for this week -  No such thing as a “simple” art fix!
Some of you may remember this tweet from Memet.  This is especially true of some reports we got this week so I’m going to give you some more info on why these cannot be fixed.

The layering on the character model goes hand -> weapon -> shoulder-> rest of body.  This is what allows things to be where they are supposed to be.

We can’t move shields to the outside of the back hand at this time.  This is an engine limitation on the layering, not an art bug.

Now for the really fun part!

Non-standard shaped armours!  Isn’t that fun?  This one actually cannot be changed because it’s all one layer.  That’s the only way it will work.  As you can see in the (horrifying) picture above, the hand on the armour isn’t anywhere close to the hand on the character model.  And the hand has to stay where it is to retain the same look as the monster version.

Non-standard shaped armours will generally have some “derp” to them that is what has to be done to make them work as an armour.  So, these are not bugs, they are Easter Eggs!

PTR Bug Reports: A How To Guide

New Bug Tracker Section for Server Rewrite Testing!

Greeting from the Asylum once again. Cemaros here with some tips to help everyone know how to make the best report possible for the PTR, since the next phase of the server rewrite testing is about to begin!

What makes a good bug report?

A good bug report contains all the information needed for us to know exactly what you are reporting.  If it’s about a shop not opening, the we would need the name of the shop (if possible) and the location of the shop (NPC name, game menu, map, etc).  For an item, we need to know the item name and exact details of what is wrong with it.You can never give us too much information.  You can give too little though.

      Got it!

How do I report PTR bugs?

PTR reports will be handled almost exactly the same now as reports have always been handled, so for those of you who know how, you can skip this section.  For those who don’t here’s a nice little walk through of reporting a bug.

First you need to get to the right place.

Start by clicking that link. This will open a new tab on your browser.  Go there. On that page, you will begin the very short process of making a bug report.

Choose AdventureQuest Worlds as the game being reported.

Then use the drop down menu to get to the right type of report. In this case, we want the AQW Server Rewrite. Click that and it will bring you to the report form.

Some of you will notice this form is much more open on the fields than other forms. That’s because this form will be in use for the rest of the PTR now and there will be times that we ask you to look at specific things.

Please don’t skip your name.  We really do want your name!  REALLY!  It’s incredibly important to me to know who is reporting in case I need to ask for more information.  Or other reasons.

It’s equally as important to know if this is on the PTR or PTR2 server.

      So, Bug Info!

The examples are just that, examples.  We are interested in anything that you think is not working right.  So if you don’t see a heading that is a perfect match, just fill in what you think it should say.

We’ve left you a LOT of room for describing the bug.  Use all of it if you can.  The better description we have, the faster we can track things down to get fixed.  It’s also vital to know if it caused a disconnection or not.  Things that throw you out of the game go to the top of the list.

Screenshots are always welcome and at times we simply cannot determine the bug without them.

Since they are so vital …

How do I link a screenshot?

You can’t embed the screenshots into the forms sadly.  So you need to put them on a public hosting site somewhere and then copy the link to the form.

So how do you even take a screenshot?  Here’s a very handy YouTube guide: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=-bnAoJXJXpY

I am incredibly partial to LightShot. With a very quick download, you can take the shot, make basic edits to it, and upload it directly to the internet with just a few easy clicks.  There isn’t even any need to save the screenshot on your computer if you don’t wish to. All of the screenshots used in this doc were made with LightShot and copied directly to the doc.  Nice tool huh?

Another really handy site is Imgur.

We prefer you not use Facebook and Twitter please.  Facebook often will not allow us to view the shots because of privacy settings, and Twitter pics are just too small.

If your screenshot link starts with  C:\ or Users:\ or file:\\, this means you have not placed the screenshot where we can view it.  These are files on your computer, and we do not have access to them.  Please upload them!

Thank you all for taking the time to read this, and I know the reports I will be reading will be the best ever. Right?  RIGHT!

      Reminder: Clear your cache

      Bugs, Reports, Cache & Flash

Hello from the land of crazy bug people again!  Cemaros, AQW Bug Squasher Extraordinaire, here with a few more reminders for everyone.  So let’s just jump right in and start with the big one.

      CLEAR YOUR CACHE!

Then clear it again.  Then clear it one more time to make sure you actually cleared it.  I recommend clearing about 3 times a week if you play daily. It only takes a few seconds and saves you many hours of frustration.

Yes, I keep reminding everyone about this one because this is the cause of about 90% of the reports we get. A "stuffed cache" not only causes issues with the game, but it will slow your entire browser performance down.

I especially want to remind folks to clear your cache since the Flash 20 update.  We’ve been getting some new types of reports in, and when investigating them, every single one of them has been because of a ….

      Guess? Stuffed cache!

For a list of some of the common causes of a stuffed cache, see here: Cache Reminder Design Notes

Artix Entertainment has nothing to do with the making of Flash, as most of you know.  Our programmers do everything they can to make sure things run smooth, but we can’t actually fix Flash itself.  But YOU can prevent a lot of issues by keeping your cache cleared out regularly. Which brings me to my next reminder.

      Fill out the report form

Every single bug report filed is read. I promise you that.  (I can, since I’m one of two people who reads and sorts them!) However, if you don’t fill out the bug reports entirely, we simply do not have enough information to work with. If you send in a report that looks like this...

There isn’t a single thing we can do with it.  Please!  Fill the forms out completely.  While I do reply to a great many of the reports sent, I can’t reply if I don’t even know what is being reported, right?

Please report from the device and browser you are having the issue on.  The bug report form gathers data about your browser (no personal info!).  In many cases, I need this data to figure out the problem.  So if you play on your Windows laptop on Firefox browser, but you report it from your iPhone, I don’t have correct data.
So! Everyone is going to clear their cache and fully fill out the forms now, right?  RIGHT!

Below is a list of the most popular browsers and how to clear the cache on each of them.  This guide provides links to the homepages of the various browsers.

"What's a stuffed cache?" you ask? GOOD question!

A cache is a place on your computer where the browser (Chrome, Firefox, IE, Safari) keeps things you've downloaded in case they're needed again - like the logo on a website or information about your AQW character. That way, it doesn't need to be downloaded each time you visit the page; as long as the same logo is displayed, your computer already knows what to look for.

Caches have a limit of how big they can be. When a cache gets full, the items in it that haven't been used in a while are discarded to make room for whatever new items you're looking at now.

And it’s all transparent to you... until something breaks! (Like with this bug.) But that's when you need to "clear your cache."

If you have any other issues, please remember to report them to the Bug Tracker! I send emails to the developers every week, and they fix as many as they have time for (starting with the highest priority issues first)!

      Thanks!!  ~Cem

Clearing your browser's cache gives you the latest version of the game

When you play AQWorlds, or any Artix Entertainment game, the game window you see is called the "client."The client shows you the updated files (that make up each release) we put out every week. Those files are stored in your browser's "cache."
Browsers store things in caches. We store them in boxes.

When we release BIG new features or fix important bugs, we want you to get the latest version of the game client, which means your browser's cache needs to be emptied of all its current files. Emptying your cache is called "clearing your cache." That lets it get all the new, most up-to-date files so your game works right.

Be sure to also restart your web browser. So the game page fully reloads, and not just the content files.
