This Weekend: Hollowborn Saga Update

Chapter 3: Twisted by Shadows

This weekend, log in as we continue the story of a character you only think you know... Lae, First of the Hollowborn. Battle alongside him as you race to save innocent villagers kidnapped by Gramiel, an insane zealot, and his Dawn Vindicators. Battle your way up the NeoTower Fortress, take down the Elite Priest guarding his throne room, and survive the newly-created minions twisted by Gramiel's darkness.

The Hollowborn Saga

Chapter 1: Dawn vs Shadow 

Explore the background Lae, First of the Hollowborn. He needs your help to save the villagers of a town where many of his brethren lived, died, and were reborn. The threat? A group of knights investigating rumors of a young girl possessed by a malicious spirit. The Dawn Vindicators dedicated to rooting out the evil and spreading their truth... at any cost.

Begin the adventure in /trygve.

Chapter 2: Vindication of Light 

Your mission: infiltrate the Dawn Vindicator's fortress to villagers kidnapped by Lord Gramiel's soldiers. Keep to the shadows to avoid detection, search for the villagers, and get out alive. Be wary, Hero... something is not right here. There is darkness hidden inside the light.

Continue the adventure in /neofortress.

Have you explored the Hollowborn Faction yet?

A faction of warriors (or creatures?... or both?!) exists among the shadows of that dark realm. Known only as the Hollowborn, they appear to be lead by man named Lae. We do not know much about him... Yet. If you aren't familiar with them, find Kaselbel in the /shadowrealm and complete her quests to earn Hollowborn Rep and to unlock dark rewards in the merge shop.

Once you find the enigmatic Lae, if you can convince him to talk, he'll tell you of a deep, dark fortress. Travel there and you'll find a series of quests that only the highest leveled heroes should begin. Complete them to unlock the exclusive Hollowborn Paladin armor set.

Introducing Our First Guild Spotlight

As we launch our new Guild Spotlight series, we couldn’t be more excited to share the story of our first featured guild. The Hero Guild exemplifies the kind of dedication, camaraderie, and creativity that makes our community so special. Whether it’s supporting players from around the globe or crafting cool experiences in-game & on Discord, Hero Guild went above and beyond to make their mark in AdventureQuest Worlds – and the Design Notes, too!

Hero: A Global Force for Good

Founded in 2013, Hero is a guild that has grown to include 400-500 members from all corners of the world. This diverse community of players is united by their commitment to helping each other, whether they’re seasoned veterans or newcomers just starting their adventures. Hero’s Discord server features an in-game support ticket system that’s always buzzing with activity, as members eagerly lend a hand to those in need.

But what truly sets Hero apart is their ability to capture the spirit of their guild through stunning screenshots. Their submissions showcased moments of celebration, unity, coffee!, and joy that perfectly portrays why their guild is so special. One image in particular stood out so much that we had to do a double-take… it’s the header image up there, and it’s so impressive that we thought it was a HeroMart poster! Can you believe it was crafted by one of our talented players?! Job well done to the artist Jon_Eve, and to the Guild Hero: you’ve set the bar high right from the get-go!

Cold Thunder Saga Epilogue

Main Story Epilogue + Challenge Battle

After much loss and sacrifice, the war between Greenguard and Skye has ended. The Rumbling of Cold Thunder was silenced by you and your friends, which means it's time to return home. This weekend, witness the resolution to your stormy journey in the saga's epilogue cutscene, and look towards the fire on the horizon. That's not all! A new challenge awaits you on the Throne of Skye, nursing a grudge that refuses to die. 

This weekend, adventures await in:

• TerminaTemple: saga epilogue quests + cutscene
• QueenIona: challenge battle vs Queen Iona (level 80+)

Rumbling of Cold Thunder Epilogue

The storm recedes, and Skye has been freed. You denied the deadly fates that threatened your companions, and return to Greenguard as a Hero. Don't count on it being all sunshine and rainbows just yet. There's something waiting for you under the floorboards. Return to Termina Temple for the finale of our Age of Ruin: Rumbling of Cold Thunder saga, and look forward to the Flame of the Beyond!

Once you've completed The Storm Queen quest from Felix in /ColdThunder, head back to /TerminaTemple to complete the Tell-Tale Heart quest from Tara. The Epilogue Cutscene will unlock upon its completion.

Queen Iona Challenge and Rewards

The Tyrant Queen of Lies is dead, but her bitter bloodline refuses to give up Skye's throne. The phantom of Iona's insidious memory awaits your challenge, along with a bounty of regal rewards! You'll need to be at least level 80+ to enter the /QueenIona battle, and this time, you can't bring friends. This is an electrifying one on one duel between you and the Queen!

Battle Queen Iona in /QueenIona for a chance to get:

• Dark Lightning Gloria

Sovereign of Storms Class

Power up Your Darkblood StormKing

If you're at least level 80 and have completed the Rumbling of Cold Thunder saga, you can take on the 1-player Queen Iona Challenge Boss! Upon defeating her, you'll be one step closer to unlocking the Sovereign of Storms Class.

Sovereign of Storms

Sovereign of Storms is a late-game scaled version of the existing Darkblood StormKing class. It has the same class art and plays almost identically to its predecessor, but is a lot more powerful and includes new effects to give your gameplay more of an electrifying charge.

Why Not Make a New Class?

Making a brand new class takes up significantly more time than rebalancing an existing one. AQW has over one hundred classes with unique skill sets, but a lot of these skill sets go unused once players reach the late and endgame. We wanted to try something new by taking an earlier game class, and scaling it up for late game.

Will There be More Classes Like This?

That's up to you guys, if you like the idea of scaled up classes and want us to do more in the future, then we'll do just that!

What to Expect With Scaled Classes?

With scaled classes, you can expect them to:

• Function similarly to their base version.
• Perform significantly better than their base version.
• Require at least their base version or an equivalent, such as reputation in order to obtain.
• Possibly have new icons and/or animations.

How to Unlock the Class

To unlock the Sovereign of Storms class, you'll need the following:

• StormKing's StormBolt (requires Rank 10 Thunderforge)
• Queen Iona's Royal Attire
• Skye Warden of the East
• Skye Warden of the West
• Skye Warden of the South
• Lothian's Lightning x10

Lothian's Lightning drops from 3 different quests:

• the regular Queen Iona Challenge Boss Daily Quest
• a member-only repeatable quest
• a special repeatable quest unlocked with the Queen Iona Companion pet

In the past, we've often given members a resource farming shortcut quest. For this class, we're trying something new. Members will still get their exclusive repeatable farming quest, but we're also adding a unique, repeatable farming quest for players who buy the Queen Iona Companion Pet for AdventureCoins.

That means if you have an active membership or get the AC pet, you'll be able to supercharge how quickly you save up the Lothian's Lightnings you'll need for the class.

The Queen Iona Companion Pet costs 2,000 AdventureCoins. The pet is hero-sized and includes bank pet functionality. That keeps the pet useful even after you finish farming for the Lothian's Lightning resource.

Sovereign of Storms Details

Description: Lucky, Wizard. To rule the storms, many have sacrificed the blood of their enemies, and those of their loved ones. Lightning cracks the sky open, roaring for an isolated monster.

Stat Model: Offensive Caster

Mana Regen: The Sovereign of Storms gains 10 mana when they strike a target with Storm Surge (affected by Mana Consumption).

Starting from rank 1, your bloodline grants you absolute control over the storm, causing your skills to always crit and never miss.

You bring the power of the storm to bear against your enemy. Striking a Thunderstricken target grants you a stack of Superconductive for 10 seconds, stacking to 20 and increasing the damage of Sky Splitter. Striking a Shocked target will heal you. Healing over your maximum HP lingers, reducing the damage you take from the next hit or until you heal.

You devastate your enemies with a mighty boom of thunder. Deals moderate damage to one target and light damage to two additional targets. Applies Thunderstricken to all targets hit, reducing their Magical Resistance by 25% for 10 seconds. Replaces Shocked.

Type: 120% Magical
Range: Long
Mana Cost: 90 
Cooldown: 10 seconds

Summon the ultimate power of the storm and smite your foe with a bolt of supercharged lightning, dealing increased damage for each Conductive stack you have and replacing it with Supercell, increasing your outgoing damage by 5% for each Superconductive stack you had at the time of application, lasts 20 seconds. If your target was shocked, they become Electrocuted, reducing their Hit Chance and Crit Chance by 25% for 20 seconds.

Celebrating the Spirit of Indonesia in Nusantara

This weekend, we return to Nusantara, Lore's land of emerald islands and 1,000 temples. The area and adventures are inspired by the real-life country of Indonesia. Each year, members of our team and larger artist community come together to craft new items and adventures to help honor our Indonesian heroes. 

This year's new reward set is available in the royal city of Wentira, a paradise made of gold and only visible to those who deemed worthy. Demonstrate your worth to Prince Agung Palakka; he needs your aid to expel a corrupted former royal guard turned evil magician. In return, you'll be able to unlock the Beloved Blessed Garb set.

We have a vast number of dedicated and passionate Indonesian heroes in our videogame community. To help you celebrate your Independence Day later this month, many of our team members (and players) joined forces to help create this year's event for everyone. As you battle through the event, know that Artix, the AdventureQuest Worlds team, and I wish you and your family peace, joy, and love. At a time when there is so much darkness in our world, we strive to help spread light and happiness to as many people as possible... and hope you'll join us in doing the same.**

Guild Spotlight Series: Celebrating the AdventureQuest Community

In the sprawling world of Lore, Guilds are the lifeblood of our amazing community. Guilds bring players together to conquer challenges and forge lifelong friendships. Whether you're a group of seasoned veterans or a band of fresh adventurers, every Guild has a story worth sharing. 

That’s why we’re so excited to introduce our new “Guild Spotlight” series, where we’ll be shining a light on the incredible Guilds that make our game worlds vibrant and alive. This is your chance to share your Guild’s journey with our entire community, showcasing your creativity, camaraderie, and the unique spirit that sets your Guild apart from all the others in Lore!

Spotlight Details

Over the next couple of months, we’ll be selecting Guilds to feature on our Design Notes, giving you the platform to share your Guild’s story with the world. However, this is not a competition – it’s a celebration of community! We’re looking for Guilds of all sizes and types, from hardcore gamers to casual players and everybody in between.

How To Enter

For your Guild to be considered, provide the following:

1. Guild Name

2. Founding Date

3. Guild Leader

4. Guild Officers

5. Guild Size

6. Guild Requirements (optional)

7. Current Guild Members (optional)

8. A Brief Description: In 1-4 sentences, tell us what makes your Guild special. It could be a story, a motto, a battle cry, a poem, a motivational quote, a call to arms, or whatever you think best represents your Guild. Get creative, comrades!  

9. Screenshot(s): Snap 1-4 screenshots of your Guild in action! Whether it’s a shot from your latest boss battle, a Guild meeting, or an epic moment you’ve captured, we want to see the essence of your Guild. Already have screenies to share? Great! We will happily accept past and present (and um future?!) screenshots.

Paranormal Pocong Problem

Tuesday, August 13th: Indonesia Zone Expansion

Today's midweek update begins our celebration of Indonesian Independence Day with a creepy new reward set themed on the pocong, an undead creature from Javanese mythology. Log in now and talk to Valencia in the /eventhub to begin your hunt!

Once you discover the source of the unsettling pocong problem, you'll gain access to a merge shop which contains the full Pocong Prankster set. The following 0 AC items are available for all players:

Event Inspiration & Design

English: This week's event was inspired by the Pocong, and is part of our Indonesian Independence Day celebration. The creature is a ghost wrapped in a funeral shroud. If the knots in a shroud aren't untied before a person is buried, they may become a pocong. Also known in Malaysia as "Hantu Bungkus."

Pocong are known to hop like rabbits because their feet are covered in cloth... but those "hops" can be as far as of 50 meters. O_O

Some pocong are friendly supernatural specters.
Some are more like that one prank-playing gymbro who can never take a hint.
Some pocong are so aggressive they'll give you nightmares... while you're still awake!

Caddeus, the game designer, worked with several of the Indonesian artists who regularly contribute to AQWorlds: Arlette, D Black Star, Theves, Yohan. His goal was to create something that was fun, rewarding, and which celebrated the country, people, and culture.

As Crulon tells us... He met Princess Amani when he was called to her Kingdom to rescue her father. A malicious Djinn had possessed him when he fell ill. Moth Capes & Pets on Their Way

Back on July 26th, we released house item versions of our new Moth items, and said we'd let everyone know how to obtain the pets + capes last week. Unfortunately, that information got missed in my Design Notes post for August 2nd.*

You can talk to Aria in the /eventhub now for clues on where to go in-game to hunt for her furry little flying friends. Sitting + Flying wall/floor seasonal house items are available for the:

Purifed HydraSlayer Armor Set

August 7th is National Sea Serpent Day! To help you celebrate on a grand scale, we're adding an all-new armor set to the Merge Shop in /hydrachallenge! I hope you've been saving those Hydra Scales that drop from the Hydra Heads, because you'll need them to craft the new gear. 

Find the Purfied HydraSlayer Set, an evolution of the classic Hydra Armor from 2008, in Dew Drop Fairy's merge shop:

Dew Drop Fairy's Hydra Bubble

Dew Drop Fairy used her time travel powers and Fairy magic to summon powerful versions of Chaos Lord Escherion's Chaos Beast, the Lake Hydra! Don't worry, she isn't putting Lore in danger; you're inside a bubble of spacetime separate from the real world.

Why these bosses? 

1) Because they're sea serpents and tomorrow's a holiday!

2) Fighting the Hydra Head 90 boss is part of the daily quest to create the Necrotic Sword of Doom. Plus, heroes questing to unlock the Dragon of Time Class also fight the level 90 boss.

So Caddeus figured many heroes would have already maxed out the HydraScale resource. If that's you... you're in luck! YOU can log in-game and spend them now!

Our newest adventure takes place in the royal city of Wentira, a paradise made of gold and only visible to those who deemed worthy. Demonstrate your worth to Prince Agung Palakka; he needs your aid to expel a corrupted former royal guard turned evil magician. 

Indonesian Celebration Zones:

• Golden City of Wentira: defeat the Kabasaran Waranei and his boar minions in /wentira to help Prince Agung defend his home.
• Demon Queen Battle: defeat the monsters and boss in /rangda to collect the pieces of the Arjuna, Payas Madras, and Gatotkaca sets.
• Batara Kala Battles:  take on Batara Kala to earn Kala Insignias, which can be used to purchase the Kala Helmets and Dalang Sinden armor.*

Complete the farming quest and slay monsters to ollect Wentiran Seals, Broken Tusks, Gold Nuggets, and Ancient Bones. Keep them to craft:
