Dage's Story: How One Gamer Turned Obsession Into a Career

Journey From Player to Apprentice to Apex Artist

In the world of indie gaming, few origin stories hit quite like the rise of Dage the Evil. Starting as just another passionate — aka obsessive… the healthy kind… probably — fan of the browser-based Flash MMO AdventureQuest Worlds, Dage turned his love for video games into a legendary career, becoming one of the most iconic artists in Artix Entertainment history. If you don't know the REAL story behind Dage the Evil... and want to see IRL pics too and plenty of Dage art + awesome player screenshots... read on!

Most gamers (myself included) dream of making the leap from player to professional game dev. But few (myself excluded lol) actually pull it off. Dage the Evil is one of the rare ones who did pull it off, and in doing so, he didn’t just land a job… he built an entire legacy that’s lasted over 15 years and counting!!

Dage the Evil is a defining force behind some of Artix’s biggest games, including AQWorlds, AdventureQuest 3D, and the upcoming AdventureQuest Worlds: Infinity.

But long before he wielded a Wacom, Dage was just another player who loved an online game. The difference was how he turned that obsession into a literal lifelong career!

This is a daily quest, and you'll need 3 Enchanted Dark Blood to craft the item. So if you want to get ahead of the game (literally!), you can start farming now!

If you're just joining us, you might not know who Dage the Evil is. In-game, Dage the Evil is the leader of the Undead Legion, ruler of the Underworld, and the Dark Weaponsmith. Many years ago, in the real world, the artist behind the NPC started releasing more and more rewards for his birthday until it became an annual, fan-favorite holiday. But the zones for his one, true love... PVP... are availalbe all year long!

• Underworld 1v1 PVP: /join dage1v1 and go head to head with your friend... or a stranger
