BattleMage

Knights loyal to the kingdom of Swordhaven are brave people. They must defend against all potential threats: marauders, thieves, wild monsters and even hordes of the undead. The knights are capable, but threats to the kingdom have.. escalated in recent years. The kingdom has had to come up with something new- a unit that can devastate axe-wielding undead or strike down skeletal giants without wearing the minimal protection of robes. Thus, the BattleMage.

Once you have reached rank 10 in Swordhaven rep, you'll be able to buy this class from the Swordhaven rep shop - talk to Sir Vival in /castle or Roald in /ceremony. You can also buy this class by talking to Ragnar in Battleon for 2000 ACs. This is not a member-only class.

Skills

AutoAttack

Arcane Strike
Rank Needed: 0
Mana Cost: 0 Mana
Cooldown: 2 Seconds
Type: Physical
Description: Every strike is enhanced with arcane energies that re-energizes the battlemage adding mana per hit.

A BattleMage expends a lot energy in battle, which makes sense. They’re putting all they have into their spells while wearing heavy armor and running about the battlefield. This called for the more ingenious of them to develop techniques that returned as much mana back to their bodies as possible.

 Enchanted Blade

Enchanted Blade
Rank Needed: 1
Mana Cost: 15 Mana
Cooldown: 12 Seconds
Type: Magical
Description: Enchanted Blade removes the explosion (AOE) effect from the Battlemages’s attacks but increases all spell damage and accuracy by 50% for 12 seconds.

This skill alone should let you know what the Battlemage is about. If you aren’t turning a mob of dangerous skeletons into piles of bone dust, You’re using your power to launch attacks so fearsome and large that very few can avoid being struck down. Also, this doesn’t just affect your Magical attacks. Your auto-attack is also boosted in power and accuracy.

 Arcane Fire

Arcane Fire
Rank Needed: 2
Mana Cost: 45 Mana
Cooldown: 15 Seconds
Type: Magical
Description: Summon an explosive fire ball burning with arcane energies on up to 3 targets.

I’m guessing that the flames of this spell burn blue because of the sheer amount of mana you push into it. What I don’t have to guess is that this spell hits hard. Remember that while Enchanted Blade is active, this will hit only one target very VERY hard.

 Arcane Shield

Explosive Shield
Rank Needed: 3
Mana Cost: 29 Mana
Cooldown: 45 Seconds
Type: Magical
Description: Break apart surrounding raw mana and form it into an Arcane Shield transferring most incoming damage to the Battlemage’s MP instead of HP, as well as reducing mana costs for 10 seconds. The initial break explodes damaging up to 3 enemies.

All that surrounds us has mana flowing through it. The ground, the air, the trees and even your hair. Probably your hair. I know my hair is magical. Anyway- About the skill! Divert damage to your Mana and lower the cost of your other spells? Fantastic! This same move deals some damage to three targets, or easily respectable damage to one target if you have Enchanted Blade active.

 Arcan Devastation

Arcane Devastation
Rank Needed: 5
Mana Cost: 62 Mana
Cooldown: 18 Seconds
Type: Magical
Description:  Conjure a powerful, explosive, arcane blast damaging up to 3 targets. If Enchanted Blade is active, your target with be weakened and take 30% more damage from all sources.

This skill is just what it says. A fearsome burst of arcane energy that, if used in conjunction with Enchanted Blade, is capable of leaving even the most fearsome enemy more vulnerable. The effect lasts longer than the cooldown, so you can keep the pressure on and the damage up almost one hundred percent of the time.

Passive Abilities

Passive

Heavy Armor Expertise
Rank Needed: 4
Type: Passive
Description: Physical Damage received
reduced by 30%

Passive

Battle-Hardened Mage
Rank Needed: 4
Type: Passive
Description:  Wisdom increased by 20%

Recommended Allies!

The BattleMage lends itself primarily to boss battles because of all the extra power and benefits that Enchanted Blade provides. To a lesser extent farming and questing is it’s strong suit, though you will not be inflicting quite as much damage as usual. One of this class’ main drawbacks is that despite all the power it packs it can’t heal itself. Unless you’re carrying some health potions you should team up with a class capable of healing others. Healers, Paladins, Oracles and the like. Sometimes Evolved Shaman or Glacial Warlord will work as fine allies, if you run into either of them. Here’s a thought: you see that the cooldowns on all of the BattleMage’s skills are fairly long? With a capable Bard you’ll receive even greater damage output, crit more often, have shorter cooldowns, receive minor healing and gain even more mana from your own attacks.
